Meet our Amazing Team of Travelers:
Eric Harpell is an Instructor of Physics, Astronomy, and Environmental Science at Las Positas College in Livermore where he has been a full time faculty member for over 25 years. In additional to his work at Las Positas College, Eric has worked at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, and has done research at Astronomical observatories including the Keck and European Southern Observatories. Recently, Eric has been doing research in the areas of Energy and with hiking, cycling, surfing, and playing music. , particularly in integrating wind and solar energy in place of future fossil fuel use. His "reader" on Energy and Sustainability is currently in use at Las Positas College for a course of the same name. Eric is a parent of two teen age girls, and has been "professor Eric" for over a decade in their elementary, middle, and high schools. He is also active in community outreach, assisting in star parties a local elementary schools and the Livermore Veterans Hospital. Beyond Las Positas College and the Tri-Valley Area, Eric has traveled widely throughout Europe, Asia, Central, and and South america. Wherever he is on Earth, however, He enjoys hiking, cycling, surfing, playing music, and above all spending time in nature--particularly with family and friends.
Kelly has been teaching for over 15 years, and can best be described as a lifelong learner. She is currently a TVTIP coach for new teachers in the Tri-Valley area. Her experiences include teaching in the private and public sector of education in Northern California and now in Pleasanton. Kelly has been leading professional development in reading, writing, technology integration, and blended learning. She is a co-creator of HyperDoc Digital Lesson planning design and she is active in promoting: service learning, project-based opportunities, and using digital tools to promote global citizenship! She holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and a multiple subject teaching credential. Kelly is also the co-founder of the Schoogle Digital Literacy Campand a graduate of the MERIT program from the Krause Center for Innovation. Kelly has a passion for global education in which she she has taught in Kenyan schools through an educational exchange program and she develops curriculum to teach global citizenship. She is thrilled to be supporting new teachers and looks forward to continued growth and collaboration with all her colleagues.
